South Korea and Finland are the top two educational
systems in the world. They are followed closely by Hong
Kong, Singapore and Japan. This report which is based on
various measures including international test scores and
graduation rates, provide a great source of learning.
The highest ranking countries tend to OFFER TEACHERS A
HIGHER RANKING in the society and they have a DEEP
CULTURE OF EDUCATION. Also, PARENTS have a GRAND
EXPECTATION of education, and there exists a DEEP SOCIAL
BELIEF IN EDUCATION and its “UNDERLYING MORAL
PURPOSE”. Our research also shows that funding is not the
key driving force. For reference the US sits on number 17
with her huge funding. Also, the studies show that
increased teachers’ salaries have no effect, and the best
education systems are not produced by simply throwing
money at education. Based on all the research on
educational policies, this is my plan based on capital
efficiency and sustainability..
Parents
Engage Parents from early stage in building a firm
educational culture across the state.
Develop a mandatory/consistent feedback process/
infrastructure for Parents across the state.
Provide appreciation, recognition and rewards for
Parents of children in the performing Top 1%
Teachers
Treat teachers as valuable professionals and not like
technicians in the Education machinery
Review performance appraisal system and re-define
KPIs
Create Special reward and recognition opportunities
for Teachers who meet clear pre-defined KPIs
Cross-border exchange training/exposure/learning
programs for Public school teachers with schools in
the top five(5) countries above.
Rebuild Teacher Training/Retraining centers to
accommodate the expectations of modern day
learning.
Review policies/programs for hiring teachers to help
ensure only committed persons are employed as
teachers.
Provide research funding for teachers enrolling in
postgraduate colleges.
General
Review all state government policies/legislations
regarding education.
Consolidate all state education supervisory/
monitoring units into a single unit, thereby reducing
OPEX and focusing finance on deliverables.
Review approval process for private schools and
ensure that private schools provide exceptional
opportunities for the citizenry.
Provide support funding for private schools capable of
meeting pre-defined KPIs
Sponsorship of Technology assistance projects by
state ministry of education
Provide 100% full sponsorship for any person from
Akwa Ibom who is admitted into any of the top 10
universities in the world for any field of study,
regardless of their place or country of residence. (First
degree or Masters). This program is designed to
encourage Parents and children to aim at competing
with the best worldwide, and includes providing
research funding for any projects pursued by these
students.
